April 23, 2021 - New Information Regarding Funeral Expenses

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) classifies the COVID pandemic as a disaster and reimbursement for funeral expenses is available up to $9.000. 

Paying for funeral expenses is often a financial burden. If the cause of your loved one's death is listed as COVID or complications from COVID, you can apply for this benefit.

Money provided by Cuyahoga County is available to residents affected by COVID-19 who need assistance with utility bills, including sewer, stormwater, and water. Eligibility criteria include being at or below 120 percent of the average median income and being affected by COVID-19, including having income loss. Past due bills must have occurred after March 1.

Applications must be approved by December 31, 2020. Residents can apply at Rental assistance is also available at or 833.377.7386 (RENT).

CEOGC Funding for Cuyahoga County Residents
Additional funds are available through the Council for Economic Opportunities in Greater Cleveland (CEOGC) to Cuyahoga County residents who are at or below 200% of the Federal Poverty Level. Residents struggling to pay bills, including sewer, stormwater, and water, are encouraged to apply.

 Homestead Rate Program
Available to customers aged 65 or older, or customers under 65 who are totally disabled. Total household income must not exceed $33,500 (effective January 1, 2018). Enrollment is valid for a three-year period.

Crisis Assistance Program
Available to customers affected by a major event in their life (such as sudden medical expenses, job loss, separation, or divorce) offering financial assistance of 50% of sewer balance (up to $300) toward your account. Administered by CHN Housing Partners. Verification documents required.

Wastewater Affordability Program
Rate reduction of 40 percent available for customers whose annual income is at or below 200 percent of the poverty level. Customers can be enrolled in either the Homestead program or the Affordability program, but not both. The reduced rate is the same for both programs.

Plumbing/Sewer Repair Program
Eligible homeowners may receive emergency service line replacements and other plumbing repairs. You must be a homeowner in the Sewer District’s service area and meet income guidelines. If you qualify, CHN Housing Partners will send a plumber to make the necessary repairs. You may use this program to assist with repairs once every two years. Summer Sprinkling Program
Since customers often consume more water in the summer for uses that do not contribute to a home’s sewer system, we offer a program that bases your summer use on your average winter water consumption.
